Share with someone you trust
Make sure your contact has your session link. Agree your route, expected return time and what to do if they cannot reach you.

Your contact opens the link in a browser to see the locations received. Check the time of the latest position, not just the line on the map.

Automatic updates pause after five minutes. Choose “Resume updates” on the map to continue. Pausing the viewer does not stop the paddler’s session.
Keep the link private
Anyone with the link can view the session’s location data. Share it only with trusted people and avoid posting it publicly.
Before you head out.
Does my contact need PaddlePal Pro?
No. The person sharing uses PaddleSafe through PaddlePal Pro. Their contact can open the shared page in a browser without installing the app or signing in. Check the app for current subscription options.
Will the map update without mobile coverage?
The paddler’s device needs an internet connection to send new positions, and the viewer needs a connection to receive them. GPS alone does not send your location. Until more data arrives, the map can only show positions already received.
Does PaddleSafe automatically call for rescue?
No. This website is a location viewer, not a monitored rescue service. PaddlePal’s contact messaging features are separate from contacting emergency services. Do not rely on this page to detect an emergency or raise an alarm.
Does an old location mean the paddle has finished?
No. This viewer cannot confirm that someone has finished or is safe. Contact the paddler directly and use your agreed plan if they are overdue or you are concerned.
Why does my shared link show no session?
Check that you opened the complete link. The session may be unavailable or may not have sent a position yet. Ask the paddler to check sharing in the app. You can also check service status.
Sharing is part
of the plan.
Take a way to call for help, check conditions and tell someone your plans. Location sharing is an extra source of information, not a substitute for preparation or safety equipment.
If someone may be in danger
Contact the local emergency services. In the UK, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard at the coast, or Fire & Rescue for inland water. Explain when the displayed location was recorded.
